  • Dental implants have been an established solution since four decades and Sweden was the groundbreaking country. Dental implants make it possible to replace missing teeth with a success rate that exceeds 95% and have therefore become a standard method for replacing teeth. We always strive to perform the most professional and gentle treatment in a calm and relaxed spa environment.

Titanium implants

  • The metal titanium is also an established implant alternative. It acts as an artificial root in the form of a screw that replaces the roots of your missing teeth. The unique properties of the titanium make it progressively grow together with the jaw bone, making this method suitable for implant operations. The discovery was made by the Swedish professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark in the 1950s. For more than 50 years, the metal titanium has been known for its special biocompatible properties, and several studies have also been performed on the function of the implant.

Mirala Clinic's dentist, Maria Gibsand, collaborates with "Trinon Collegium Practicum" who works with teaching dentists to perform implant operations. There, Maria also teaches and holds courses every year worldwide.

Implant of Zirconia - durable, safe and stylish

Zirconia (zirconium dioxide) is a metal-free alternative to dental implants that are also used for crowns and bridges. Zirconium dioxide is a high strength ceramic preparation that Mirala Clinic has good experience with. Zirconia usually consists of 97 percent zirconium dioxide and three percent yttrium trioxide and has a hard and smooth surface.

An advantage of Zirconia, which began to be used in the mid-1990s, is that the results are very attractive because it has a white tint and fine luster that is much better in agreement with the natural tooth color than implants of titanium.

Zirconia is more difficult to work with for the dentist but the end result is getting better and better. For example, if you have titanium screws under the implant material, they can shine through, says dentist Maria Gibsand, founder of Mirala Clinic.

Maria specializes in implant surgery and also educates dentists from other countries.

Much improved materials

A survey conducted shows that Zirconia is more durable than glass ceramics and that the durability of a seven to ten-year period is very good.

Previous generations of Zirconia had problems with so-called chip-off fractures when the veneering of burnt on porcelain bursts. That problem seems to be heading towards a solution with new generations of Zirconia that are highly estethic and being manufactured for crowns and bridges without a veneering.

The core material Zirconia has been shown to have superior mechanical properties compared to other ceramic materials.

Good for metal sensitive

Those who are sensitive to mercury from amalgam are often also sensitive to titanium and other metals. If you know that you are sensitive to metals, then Zirkonia is an excellent alternative because the risk of allergies is low.

Clinical experience and research indicate that ceramic materials integrates better than titanium and holds a lower risk of peri-implantitis and inflammation of the soft tissue around the implant.

- The connection with the gum is often better, which means that the gums around the implant tend to look better than with titanium implants. But it is more expensive with Zirconia implants, and the materal is more difficult to work with. Maria Gibsand points out

Good biocompatibility

The body thus accepts Zirconia better than material containing metal. In other words, zirconia has good biocompatibility.

Plates of bacteria can be formed on Zirconia, but several research reports show that plaque occurs significantly more frequently on titanium implants. And, as mentioned, the risk of peri-implant is greater with titanium implants.

Does not conduct electricity

Zirconia / zirconium dioxide is not to be confused with zirconium, which is a metal. Zirconia is chemically stable and has extremely low thermal and no electric conductivity.

If you have different metals in your oral cavity then galvanic currents occur and the metals rust, therefore you should avoid having several different metals in your mouth. If you choose a titanium implant, for safety reasons you should first remove other metals from your mouth.

The zirconia implants used at the Mirala Clinic are ordered from the Swiss company Dental Solutions. The surgical procedures are usually performed under local anesthesia and are completely painless.

All at once

When it comes to the front teeth, we often use the so-called "Short Cut Concept", the "shortcut concept" developed by Dr. Ulrich Volz in Switzerland. It saves time and provides a more natural healing. And you don't have to walk around with a slit in the front of your mouth.

The method means that immediately after withdrawing the tooth, it is replaced with an implant, instead of waiting for many months to insert the implant - it has long been the most common method. But at Mirala Clinic we are at the forefront and have invested in the latest technology. If possible, we also put in a crown or bridge at the time of the same operation.

  • Intralift is a hydrodynamic ultrasound sinus lift based on small oscillating high frequency instruments, that is used to make room for the placement of inserts. Instead of using large incisions and preparing large “windows” in the side sinus wall Intralift only requires a small incision. Intralift therefore means minimal invasive surgery with very little or no pain. Intralift was invented by the TKW-research group, of which Marcel was one of the founders. Since 2006, 25, 000 Intralifts have been carried out worldwide with very successful results.


Sometimes the best solution is to extract (pull out) a tooth. For example, the tooth may be severely damaged or infected. Wisdom teeth can also grow in the wrong direction and harm neighbouring teeth or surrounding soft tissue and therefore needs to be extracted.

Even a root-filled tooth can be infected and then it is sometimes better to extract the tooth than to redo the root filling. There are many aspects to consider so you should choose a dentist who has solid experience.

Requires accuracy

Extraction is a surgical procedure that requires experiance and precision. Great care is required so that the tooth bone does not burst when the tooth is removed. Often there is an inflammation of the apex of the root which should not come as a surprise or proper cleaning of the cavity can be missed.

Root-filled teeth may also have infected side channels that can cause infection in the jawbone. Not infrequently, the gums around the tooth are so infected that the tooth needs to be pulled out.

The body's defense mechanism is often to encapsulate infections that sit around the tooth. If they are at the root tip, they may eventually grow in size and destroy the bone. Therefore, it is important to find such things in good time so that the damage to the bone will be contained. It helps a lot to have good quality of the bone if you choose to replace the tooth with an implant.

The 3D X-ray shows more

At the Mirala Clinic, we are very careful to examine you as a patient before any intervention. Some inflammations and cracks are not visible on the normal 2D-rowan, but we can do a 3D X-ray that reveals more, to see what action is needed. We can then see how far the inflammation has spread, where cracks are found and how the situation is at large.

With that added knowledge we then plan the procedure so that it will be painless for you. We always check that the anesthesia has taken before we start our work. Extraction can take from five minutes to 1.5 hours. For example, teeth that are rooted are often more difficult to pull out.

Cleaning is crucial

It is important, as I said, to pull the tooth out correctly but, if possible, even more importantly to clean the alveolar cavity (where the tooth used to be). The dentist works with strong magnifying glasses throughout the procedure so as not to miss anything. The cavity is flushed, residues and debri are removed. Tissue or bones that have been damaged are scraped clean.

As an extra precaution and to speed up the healing, we offer an ozone treatment throughout the area - a kind of pen with electric radiation is inserted into the hole where the tooth is sitting. The oxygen there is then converted to ozone which acts antibacterially.

Accelerated healing

We can also add A-PRF to the alveolar cavity that "eats up the bacteria" and further reduces the risk of complications. We also suture the soft tissue together so that it closes tightly. After ten days, we remove the stitches and then also check up on the healing.

When the anesthetic releases you may need pain relief and over the counter painkillers is the first option for pain relief. After extraction it is important that you do not eat or drink anything for two hours after the procedure. You will also receive instructions on how to care for you and your mouth afterwards. It is important that you do not touch the wound or rinse your mouth - all to facilitate the natural wound healing.

Many sinus infections?

If you have suffered from many sinusitis, they may be because you have inflamed teeth in the upper jaw, in the posterior teeth. Inflammed roots may have branched out inside the sinus and caused sinusitis, in those cases imaging from our 3D X-ray can be important for proper diagnosis.


  • L-PRF is the abbreviation for Leukocyte Platel rich Fibrin and is the patient's own blood centrifuged to a concentrate of the best quality of the blood. Leukocytes and platelets are blood cells that contain growth factors that are required and for all types of wound healing and tissue regeneration. The point is to concentrate these cells and place them where we need them the most in any type of surgery or treatment where we need a quick healing and renewal. The technology is established in many medical fields, for example: orthopedic surgery, burns, wound care and dental care. We at Mirala Clinic have made this a standard procedure and we have lots of experience with good results of the technology. We are proud to offer this treatment as it is the most biological, non-reactive and cost-effective technology that is not from animal origin. With the help of this technique, we can therefore speed up the healing process and thereby reduce swelling and bruising. As well as reduce or completely exclude the use of antibiotics. This is something we think is very important in terms of antibiotic resistance, (WHO report 2014).


  • In cases where the patient does not have sufficient bone mass in the jawbone, we have the opportunity to build up the bone in both the upper and lower jaw. There are various methods for bone transplantation and you will discuss with your dentist which alternative is appropriate for you. We use non-animal products, ie instead of materials that come from, for example, cows or horses, we use for example beta-tricalcium (B-TCP), hydroxyapatite (HA), the patient's own bone or bone from bone banks. In addition, we also use the patient's own blood in concentrated form to increase the healing process. We have long experience in this type of surgery and method.

Ultra Oral Surgery

  • With the help of ultrasound, we can perform minimal invasive treatments in the oral cavity that are much more gentle and nicer to tissues than the usual rotary drills commonly used. We use ultrasound technology from tooth extractions to bone transplants. Since this technique is so gentle, the patient does not get the heavy swelling, bruising and pain that otherwise may occurs and the patient is expected to be able to go to work the day after the surgery is made.
